‘The 'Right' One'

‘Disappointing' is the harshest condemnation made
They let it happen to us and then they claim
That hanging on in wild resignation is the English way
Oh well, maybe it is…

I always believed that the most perfect
Encapsulation of human dread
Was in the eyes of a ‘Columbo' suspect
But now I'm not so sure…

How did this happen to the ‘right' one?
Why did we let this become of the ‘right' one?
What, now, can be done about the ‘right' one?
